Charles Camilleri

Charles Camilleri did for Malta what Vaughan Williams had done for England by collecting the folk music of his country and developing it in many of his works, notably the Malta Suite. He composed over 100 works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, voice and solo instruments. Camilleri's work has been performed throughout the world and his research in folk music and improvisation contributed towards his universal style. The 2009 edition of Għanafest was dedicated to Charles Camilleri. The Nafra folk ensemble performed a selection from the cycle Songs from Malta composed by Charles Camilleri to the lyrics of Joe Friggieri.
